All About me

Hello, My name is Amanda.  I am currently a college student.  I've been going for what seems like forever.   I started my college career at Grand Valley State University in Michigan, after three years I transferred to the University of Texas @ San Antonio in Texas, where I attended for a year and a half.  I moved back at home and took a semester of classes at College of DuPage before transferring back to GVSU in August of 2002.     My anticipated graduation is April of 2006

I am a History major with an emphasis in American, and African History.  My minor is Geography.  I plan to get my Secondary Ed. certification and teach American History.  I have one more year of regular classes left before I will be able to enter the school of Ed an begin my Student Teaching.  I currently work as a substitute teacher in a number of districts in my area

I was born October 19, 1979 at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, IL. I moved around quite a bit when I was young.  But my parents pretty much kept our family in DuPage County.  I moved by myself for two years to San Antonio, TX. before moving back to IL in January of 2002.  I purchased my first home in June of 2003.  It is a mobile home not far off campus.  It is so cute, I love it.

I graduated from Glenbard North High School in 1997. During high school I found my passion...music. I was a band geek through most of high school. I started out in the Color guard (flag core) my sophomore year, while I took a class and learned to play the clarinet. The following fall I started marching my instrument.  I was also a member of the Concert Band my junior year and Symphonic Band my senior year, where I then learned how to play the Contrabass clarinet.

I continued playing the clarinet when I got to GVSU. I was a member of the Grand Valley Laker Marching Band for 3 seasons. Being a member of the Band gave me so many experiences and allowed me to meet so many people I otherwise might not have met.  The highlight of my marching career was playing pre-game for the 1999 Thanksgiving Lions/Bears game, and getting a chance to meet, and have a conversation with the lead singer of Third Eye Blind.  It was an experience I will never forget.  I have since stopped playing in the band because of scheduling conflicts.  I miss it quite a bit.

I am also a proud alumna of Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority Zeta Tau chapter of Grand Valley State. I rushed in the Fall of '99, I soon took over the position of Ritual Chair in the winter of 2000. When I transferred to UTSA although they too had a chapter I decided not to stay active.  We have recently started up the Greater Grand Rapids Alumni chapter.  I was elected secretary.

I have been volunteering with the Girl Scouts of Michigan Trails in their Face-It program for the last 2 and a half years.   This program is a mentoring program of sorts.  I am an advisor for girls grades 10-12.  We create and present programs to younger girl scouts that deal with a variety of that deal with anything from building friendships, to eating healthy, to saying no to drugs.  Being a part of this program has truly changed my life.  I can not begin to describe how much I love it.
